The Shard Trilogy

Hello my lovely and beautifully loyal readers. I know I’ve been absent for a while, but things have been happening at the speed of light! Most importantly, I married the love of my life, so you know, that was nice.

In other news, however, you will (hopefully) be glad to know that I’m officially back. Blogs will roll, I say! Ahem. In any case, I happen to have started publishing my books, finally. I’m excited! One of them is already out under the pen name Helen Rose, but I will in fact be publishing the first of the Shard-related books later this month under my own name. I’m incredibly excited to finally be able to share these with you, and a lot of you have been there with me since the beginning as I worked on and slaved over them. So thank you for your continued and awesome support, and stay tuned for Pirates, book one in the Shard trilogy! (Super sneaky sneak peek at the covers up above there for you.)

Attention My Two Faithful Readers

I have exciting news! Although I do apologize for spreading this around all over the internet without first posting it here, but what can I say?

Up until now I’ve had two separate blogs; this one and NaNoWriMo and Me. However, that blog has morphed beyond its original purpose as a purely NaNo blog into a general writing blog. And since writing is approximately 80% of my life, I think it should just all be lumped together, especially since this blog is technically named after one of my novels in progress. So. It will take a while, but I will be merging the blogs and getting rid of the NaNo one. Also, it will greatly reduce admin 🙂 Stay tuned. The brand spanking newishbutnotreallybecauseitwillbeatthisURL merger blog (you have to admit, you get a little thrill) will be up and running within the next week.

Exit Stage Left

So I have a math tutor. This is an awesome, awesome thing. Luckily I have about a month’s grace with my math class, so I should still finish all my classes by October 1st. But for now I can’t go on with the class work because…well…I have no clue what’s going on. So.

Also, I went back to the NaNoWriMo boards yesterday, and oh my word, it was good to be back. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the boards are quite active, which they haven’t been lately. Apparently everyone hit the “Okay, now I REALLY miss NaNo” stage all at the same time, because there’s about ten “What You Miss About NaNo” threads in all different subsections. There’s also a not-so-small group of people who decided to do their own NaNo in June. There’s already a NaNo-like event pretty much every month, but they’re doing it all by themselves, so my hat goes off to their braveness. If you’re planning on doing NaNo, or if you’ve done it before, feel free to find me on the site; my nick is africanstardust (big surprise, I know). If you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, here’s a summary: Every year, a bunch of crazy people sign up to write at least 50,000 words of fiction starting at midnight on November 1st and ending at midnight on December 1st. Usually we don’t get any sleep on the night of October 31st because we’re staying up staring at the clock, waiting for midnight and being jealous of Australia for already starting.

If you want more information, go to You can also check out my writing blog at On my blog there are also links to other NaNo blogs. If you’re thinking of doing it this year, take my advice and READ THESE BLOGS. They have lots of good tips and advice, and a lot of them also have day-by-day updates so you’ll know what to expect. If you think I’m exaggerating about the massiveness of this thing, you are oh so very mistaken.

Boredom and Sushi

I abhor those days when you feel like not only are you worthless, but it’s your fault, and the only things you can do to change this are not possible to do. Those days suck. You go into a kind of tail spin, and everything you do just makes it worse: you try to write (which is your passion), but “aren’t in the mood,” you decide to watch a movie but “there’s nothing on,” you opt to clean your room but you feel floppy, and finally you end up writing a blog post that makes it sound like you’re about to throw yourself into a wood chipper when you are, in fact, not, but are just ranting to get rid of the icky feeling.

In other news, I have an unfortunate and never ending craving for sushi. Unfortunate because my wallet can’t handle it. Rainbow rolls are my new favorite things on the planet. Avocado and salmon wrapped on the outside, then rice, then more avocado and salmon. Nom nom nom.

*sigh* Okay, this is ridiculous. I have no idea what to do with myself. I don’t feel like reading, I don’t feel like writing, I don’t feel like watching TV…or I do, but I can’t for some odd, illogical reason. There are no volunteer thingies I can do today, all my friends are across the pond, NaNo is over, my parents/sister aren’t here, continue this pathetic rant in the same manner. Honestly all I feel like doing right now is grabbing a Kleenex box, a gallon of ice cream, and watching House until my eyes dry up. but I can’t do that (small town, small video store, no one here has ever heard of gallon ice cream), so I guess I’ll just…clean my room.

Hello all, I hope you’re still alive after the post-NaNo slump/depression/general bad feeling. Excerpts are forthcoming, I promise. I just wanted to mention that for my non-NaNo life, I have another blog, Masquerade: If you’re interested, of course 🙂
